Polish fan Joanna sent me a photo of her Nepenthes Rebecca Soper, which is a carnivorous pitcher plant. And, as many of you know, I have a particular fondness for plants that eat living things!
Pitcher plants work by attracting insects - and sometimes small rodents in some of the larger plants! - to their sticky sweet fluid. Once the prey falls into the liquid, it drowns, and the liquid breaks the body down to the nutrients the plant needs to survive. Delightfully diabolical, no?
Don't forget to pop by Tinychat tonight for an e-reading from Skary Childrin and the Carousel of Sorrow and a chat with me! All you need is a Tinychat account and a way to listen in. You can participate in the chat via webcam, mic, or text-chat!
And while we're talking reminders, here are some more places to find me:
Many, many others. Just ask your favorite store or library! Those of you having trouble finding it in your country can still order it online!
Speaking of the book, check out the latest fan art I got! Aw, Phillip. And sandwiches! Good job, Zoe. And that reminds me that I may have to do a book-related fan art contest soon. Been a while since I had a contest, hasn't it?
I've got all sorts of things to post soon! Here's just one of them while I gear up for a gigantic post coming up soon. It's a poster drawn by Jamie StarFan! Look at all that detail!
I confess that half the reason I'm excited about the book release is because I can't wait to see your versions of all the other characters in it. :)
This one's by Shanna G!
And I promise I'll upload the rest of my backlog of fan art in the next day or so.
Oh! Also! Congratulations to the book giveaway winners Hannah Suckle and Kerry-Ann McDade! Your ARCs will be sent out soon. The rest of you (and the winners, too, really) can still pre-order the nice, shiny hardback or ebook, though, or just wait like patient little elves (are elves patient? I don't know) for August 23rd. Only a couple of months away!
Still almost three months to go before Skary Childrin and the Carousel of Sorrow is out, and there's already Carousel fan art! How fantastic is that? Dictator-Tan sent in this illustration and said: "We don't know her name yet(Or at least I don't.), So I didn't title it after her. Done with Photoshop Elements 9. If you can find it on DeviantART then favorite it OR comment on it! More is coming in the future!"
Thanks, DT! Her name is Adelaide, by the way.
Everyone else who's sent in fan art: I'll be updating soon! I have lots to post! :)
As you might or might'nt know, I've been swamped lately with work related to the book. That work is now mostly done, though things are still being edited here and there. While it's a little slower around here, I'm finally catching up on my email, which means... new fan art! Here are just a few of the latest:
And there are so! Many! More! So, kindly take yourself to the fan art gallery to peruse all your fine work.
I have an illustration in the works for you. Should be up in the next day or so. And maybe, just maybe, I'll have more news about the book soon (yes, and all those projects I've had to shove aside for the time being). We shall see. Thanks for your patience, everyone, and I hope you each had lovely holidays!
I've gone and turned 30 some time in the night. The 10-year-old in my head is greatly displeased. The 70-year-old in my head says, "Pipe down, whippersnapper!" But the artist in my head promises that this year will be filled with all the illustrated blood and written guts you can shake a stick at. Growing up is for somebody else to do, I say. ;)
Coming soon: all of your recent fan art (it's wonderful!), some new illustrations, a calendar for 2011, and more prints.
Coming later: a cartoon called Boy, and a novel about some Skary Childrin.
Look! More fan art! And it's all absolutely lovely as usual. Really, what else could I expect? For example, this picture of Emmeline, painted in Photoshop CS2 by Naomi from Australia:
And this series of Seven Skary Sins by Ashley from Canada:
I'm in the middle of a new illustration that I can't wait to show you - that should be up by this weekend - and I'm still pondering how the Death and Elsie saga should end.
First of all, thank you all so much for the views and comments and faves and stars and all of that goodness for The Mockingbird Song last month! You're all wonderful, but you knew that. Or if you didn't, you know it now. ;-)
Speaking of how wonderful you all are, please take a moment to explore the Fan Art gallery! There have been a ton of new images added, and they're just spectacular. Just a few examples for you:
Mack from Jersey City sent this picture of Casilda from ten years after the zombie apocalypse:
